What’s the difference between an outlaw, a rebel, and a hero? Where do bad guys go when they die? The fearless instigators behind the Real Dream Cabaret wanted to find out, so they did what they always do: they watched movies for five straight years. They’ve studied Chicago mobsters and molls, bikers, pirates, comic book supervillains, hippies, and all manner of scofflaws and ne’er-do-wells. Now, using live theater and video, they’re finally ready to bring to the stage a cast of characters ranging from folk heroes like Robin Hood, Joan of Arc, Lizzie Borden, and Bonnie and Clyde to later media darlings like Timothy Leary and the Baader-Meinhof gang, plus a generous selection of scandalmongers from Buffalo’s own past and present. Zesty censorship zealot Mary Whitehouse will be on hand with forbidden films, the infamous David Kane will supply a salacious soundtrack, guest artists will drop by to perform illicit acts, and emcee Ronawanda will do his or her best to make sure the cops don’t raid the joint.
