Pfalzgraf Siegfried goes to war against the enemies of his faith. With the words "You're a German woman, so do not complain," he leaves his young wife Genoveva in the care of Golos. Not only us like this farewell seem strange. Even Golo is irritated. Whether the love is? He at least loves Genoveva, and to madness.
Robert Schumann is known today primarily as a master of Lie and piano music. Throughout his life, however, he fought for the great form, particularly the opera became his "morgend- and evening prayer artist". The encounter with Friedrich Hebbel's Genoveva drama finally gave the decisive impetus. Not to the "old, sentimental" history of the people book it should go, but the exploration of the depths of human psyche through the means of music. For when Genoveva Golos withdraws overtures, calling him even as a bastard, suggests his affection into destructive hatred.
The team led by Yona Kim who is equally at home as a director and librettist in contemporary music as in the classics of opera, just maybe even the night side of the story.
