Count Almaviva is in love with Rosina. With all sorts of tricks he tried to enter the house of her uncle Bartolo, Rosina keeps locked up and she wants to marry itself to her dowry's sake. It can keep the count neither of Bartolo, nor of the scheming music teacher Basilio. The barber Figaro is confident his side and tried to do its part, that the story can end happily.
Il barbiere di Siviglia is based on the first part of Pierre Beaumarchais' comedy trilogy in which the figure of just how clever scheming barber is at the center. For various reasons - not least because of the cast of singers the premiere - shifted the librettist Cesare Sterbini and Gioacchino Rossini, however, the focus of Figaro to the Count Almaviva. The barber is a sympathetic, but mostly unsuccessful loudmouth.
The plant is known as the Rossini masterpiece in the field of opera buffa, but since its world premiere on 20 February 1816 in Rome as the epitome of the genre at all. The music of Rossini deepened not states of mind, but shows grotesquely twisted numbers that reach to the limits of the absurd. Above all is an unleashed vitality that makes this work unique and one of the most successful musical comedies in opera history.
