Maroon Isle Productions presents Oskuneru, a theatrical exploration of the Surinamese Maroons' journey toward self-liberation, opening February 6, 2025. Written and directed by Sefanja Richard Galon, this production aims to celebrate and honor the resilience and cultural heritage of the Maroons while fostering dialogue about Caribbean identity. The immersive experience features traditional African prints, colonial-era elements, and an original score composed by Mikhael Mendoza. Oskuneru evolved from a 2020 Zoom reading into a full-scale debut, making it a culturally significant centerpiece for Black History Month in Miami.
