Brief Synopsis:
All of the stock characters in British murder mysteries rebel against their author...to hilarious and often murderous effect.
Roles (4 women, 4 men):
LADY SOMERSET - This role has already been cast.
JANE - (40+) Lady Somerset’s dutiful maid, but there’s more to her past than meets the eye. She’s the head of the household staff and Lady Somerset’s longtime companion, despite resentment over how the lady of the house treats her.
EMMA REESE - (20-30) An innocent ingénue, caught up in the action when she’s invited to a party by a woman she’s never met, but there’s more to sweet little Emma than meets the eye.
COUNTESS - (30-40) A beautiful mystery woman who knows more about what’s going on than she’s willing to reveal. The stereotypical woman in red, there’s more to her exotic background than meets the eye. The actress playing COUNTESS will also play a STRANDED MOTORIST and NUN.
MAJOR - (45+) A soldier, full of exciting stories about his time in India, which he shares constantly. Somewhat oblivious, one might wonder how such a man was able to command troops overseas- with good reason.
DEVON TREMAIN - (35-55) Once among the best actors of his generation, but his love of scotch has gotten the better of him. Clever and acerbic when sober, Tremain is completely aware of how far he has fallen.
CHARLES - (25-40) Lady Somerset’s good for nothing nephew, who doesn’t bother hiding his underhanded aspirations. He delights in his status as the ‘black sheep’ of the family.
INSPECTOR PHELPS - (25+) Just trying to do his job and protect the citizens of the community, even if he isn’t quite sure what he’s doing at Lady Somerset’s home in the middle of the night. The actor who plays PHELPS will also play MR. WOO and EL GATO.
Doubled characters:
MR. WOO - A private investigator with dirt to reveal, but he never gets the chance.
STRANDED MOTORIST - A meek young woman frightened by the goings on of the house when she stops to ask for help.
EL GATO - A renowned jewel thief with a Spanish name and a French accent.
NUN - A nun collecting for charity in the middle of the night. The Lord’s work is never done!
