Show Synopsis:
Fourteen year-old Pete is fighting to claim his past. His older brother Jake is hoping to forge a future. With an eclectic band of friends teetering on the brink of adulthood, they have embarked on a life-altering journey to the coal mine that took their father's life. With its soaring, elegiac bluegrass and pop-inspired score, this inspirational new musical finds both the streaks of light and the heart of darkness within us all.

CHET ~ Jake's best friend and co-worker in the mines. An outgoing guy, but a bit of a wise-ass. Stubborn, loyal.
Male, 18-21 yrs old
4 DEAD MINERS ~ A group of four men, ranging in age, who appear as ghosts in the coal mines.
Male, 20-60 yrs old
DUSTY ~ Pete's best friend. A simple-minded teen who is weary of Pete's adventures. Generally amiable, loves to talk. Religious.
Male, 13-16 yrs old
FRANCES ~ A feisty runaway living in the hills. She has a dry wit and short temper. Brave, confident, controlling.
Female, 13-16 yrs old
JAKE ~ Pete's older brother who dropped out of school to work in the mines. He is constantly suppressing his anger. Cynical, conflicted, jaded, determined.
Male, 18-21 yrs old
PETE ~ Jake's younger brother. Intense and very imaginative. He is skeptical of the coal mining industry. Curious and adventurous.
Male, 13-16 yrs old

Auditions will be starting at 7:00pm Tuesday, May 22, 2013. Callbacks only as needed.

Please prepare a 1-2 minute (combined) monologue & song.

Participants must be age 17 or older ... unless otherwise noted as above for this production.
