New York, NY. Critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Hope Levy brings her story of folk legend Connie Converse to the New York stage in an award-winning smash-up of storytelling and Converse’s unique original songs. The Connie Converse Universe is a tribute to the lost artist who vanished in 1974. A pioneering figure in the folk music genre, Connie Converse preceded the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, and laid the groundwork for the singer-songwriters of the 1960s. Her life took a mysterious turn in August 1974 when she packed her belongings into a VW Bug and disappeared, never to be seen again. It wasn’t until 2009, when her 1954 demo recordings were rediscovered and went viral on Spotify, that her music found new life. Winner of the 2024 San Diego International Fringe Festival award for “Outstanding Musical,” the 2024 “Best of Asylum” award from the Hollywood Fringe and the 2024 TVO Award for “Best Solo Show (Female),” The Connie Converse Universe, is a 55-minute folk cabaret performance brought to life by Hope Levy that invites audiences to explore Connie Converse’s unusual and enigmatic life and music. “Hope Levy and Connie Converse are a match made in cabaret heaven! Hope puts her own fresh, quirky take and her clarion voice on Connie’s fresh, quirky songs. I’ve seen this show twice and I truly can’t wait to see it again!” — Jason Graae The Connie Converse Universe Written & performed by Hope Levy Music and Lyrics: Connie Converse Director: Tom Lavagnino
