Imagine standing in line for four days in hopes of getting Hamilton tickets, only to find out, when you finally get your shot, you're $20 short? According to NYPD News on Twitter, that's exactly what happened to one fan.

In 2007, Kathryn Taylor Smith created a very well-received "homeless angel" character for a stage production. That led to her first short film featuring the same character, which would earn Smith acting awards in film festivals around the country. Smith soon became actively aware of the homeless epidemic; researching the problem, volunteering for organizations, becoming an advocate, and talking with those who experienced it…all culminating in her hit show A Mile in My Shoes, which made its premiere at this past Hollywood Fringe Festival. While a great start, Smith knew she wanted to reach more people with her message of the power of "small change."

In anticipation of Halloween, Tech N9ne is releasing his visually arresting Brightfall short film at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST on StrangeMusicInc.com today. The first of a five-part series, the 8-minute movie is inspired by the song “Brightfall,” which appears on Tech N9ne's 2018 album, Planet.

Playing On Air announced today the three winners of the inaugural James Stevenson Prize for comedic short plays. First Prize ($7,500, plus a Playing On Air recording for radio and podcast distribution) has been awarded to Hate Baby by Gracie Gardner. (Gardner is also the winner of the 2017 Relentless Award and author of the New York Times Critic's Pick Athena.) Second Prize ($2,000) has been awarded to Hedgehog Years by Lily Akerman. Third Prize ($1,000) has been awarded to Horse Latitudes (Who Wants to be an Equine Extra?) by Elizabeth Logun.

The 23rd annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) returns to Miami from June 12-16, 2019 and continues to showcase quality film and television content by and about people of African descent. Film submissions are now open, with over $50,000 in cash and prizes being awarded at the festival's Best of ABFF Awards presentation.

Following the critically acclaimed 'Newtown' documentary, LESSONS FROM A SCHOOL SHOOTING Notes from Dunblane depicts Father Bob Weiss, who in the days following the Sandy Hook Massacre that took the lives of 20 children and 6 of their educators teachers on December 14, 2012, was tasked with the burial of 8 of those children.  In the throes of profound PTSD, he receives a letter from Father Basil O'Sullivan in Dunblane, Scotland where, in 1996 16 school children were gunned down at the hands of an unhinged lone gunman. In the ensuing months, the two priests forge a bond across the Atlantic through a series of letters sharing experiences of trauma and recovery. Father Basil recalls his own town's efforts to launch the “Snowdrop” campaign that brought about radical gun policy reform in the UK, whereas the US has had no federal reform to date. There have been over 1600 mass shootings since December 2012 in the US.  In the aftermath of the tragedy, Father Basil journeys across the Atlantic to bring solace to Father Bob and the community of Newtown.

UFC®, the world's premier mixed martial arts organization, today announced details of a 25-part documentary series that will debut in September to celebrate the company's silver anniversary. Entitled UFC 25 Years in Short, the compilation of short films will present 25 captivating UFC stories, one for each year of the promotion's existence, which will examine UFC's amazing evolution, fascinating characters, and lasting influence.

An homage to classic, suspense thrillers such as American Pyscho and Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, FLIKKER is the story of one young man's descent into madness prompted by self-imposed confusion and guilt. Seemingly trapped and alone, stalked and tormented by a malevolent force, he's left questioning his sanity and what it means to be him in this continually changing world.

Zion is a gripping portrait of Zion Clark, a young wrestler born without legs who grew up in foster care. Clark began wrestling in second grade against his able-bodied peers. The physical challenge became a therapeutic outlet and gave him a sense of family. Moving from foster home to foster home, wrestling became the only constant thing in his childhood. The Netflix original documentary short is directed by Floyd Russ.

Editor-turned award-winning short film director, Jonathan Eagan (Workin' Moms, Letterkenny, What Would Sal Do), and Tania Thompson (The Lockpicker, Love Bent, Bitches Love Brunch) are pleased to announce that their short film, Rake, starring an ensemble cast which includes newcomers Sam Davey, Andrew Cox, Devon Hauth (Mimicry), and Madi Violet Graves (Meet Ronald, Famous Feuds), has completed post-production and is ready to start the festival circuit. Rake, a drama told over one summer night in Toronto, is the second short film from Eagan, who also wrote the screenplay, and is made under his banner, 463 Films, in partnership with Thompson's company, Refinery. Eagan and Thompson serve as producers.

Goodman Theatre announced today that Artistic Director Robert Falls will direct its 2018/2019 season opening production, We're Only Alive for A Short Amount of Time, written and performed by David Cale.

Valerie McCaffrey's DIRTY BOMB, one of the great but largely untold stories from WWII, is in competition for Best Short Film at the Madrid International Film Festival.  Ido Samuel, the film's star, is up for Best Actor in a Short Film. The film will screen on Thursday, July 26th, at 7:15PM, at the Novotel Madrid Center, Screening Room 1.

This week, Jean-Michel Blais' acclaimed album, Dans ma main, was short-listed for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. Sharjah Art Foundation announced today the recipients of the first Short Film Production Grant, a part of Sharjah Film Platform (SFP). Emerging filmmakers Faisal Attrache, Mohammed Al Hammadi and Abdulrahman Al Madani will be awarded a total of USD 30,000 to support the production of new work. The foundation also announced today an open call for film submissions that would be screened alongside the premieres of the Short Film Production Grant recipients' new works at the annual Sharjah Film Platform in December 2018.
