Concert II celebrates the "plus one" that is the Piano Quintet. Schumann's innovation of instrumentation, adding piano to string quartet, revolutionized the piano quintet and established it in the concert hall. Gabriela Lena Frank uses the quintet to focus intensely on mood and color with an imaginative spirit. MOCM invites nationally recognized professional musicians to historic Webster Groves, Missouri and St. Louis venues to perform a series of chamber music concerts as part of an annual festival which takes place each June. Diverse programming, including new and commissioned works, is a defining attribute of the festival, helping to illuminate the exciting, extraordinary, and diverse nuance of the small ensemble genre.
